Area Synopses
Important: See the Notes at the bottom of this page

Ascetos Desert (Asc)
Hunting Level: 500+
Monster Level: 500+
Dungeon(s): Greater Hives and Ascetos Caverns - a one room quest cave.
Monsters: Kilrogs, King Kilrogs, King Cobras, Hell Snakes, Baby Dragons, Evil Minions, Protectors, Champions, Beserkers, Servants of the Mist, Stinging Furies, Evil Bees, Fire Wasps, Hornets, and Wasp Healers.

Commentary: When Ascetos Desert was expanded it became the largest hunting area in the game. Health points is the determining factor here. 3000+ should keep you from being jumped by Beserkers.

Ascetos Deep Desert (ADD)
Hunting Level: 500+
Monster Level: 500+
Dungeon(s): Anvil
Monsters: Kilrogs, King Kilrogs, King Cobras, Hell Snakes, Baby Dragons, Evil Minions, Protectors, Champions, Beserkers, Servants of the Mist, Stinging Furies, Evil Bees, Fire Wasps, Hornets, and Wasp Healers.

Commentary: The largest difference between Deep Desert and Ascetos Desert itself, are the ambushes. If your not prepared to face 10 Baby Dragons or groups of Evil Minions, this isn't the area for you. Secondly, this area has the highest level Beserkers. Perhaps 4000+ Health points will keep them from jumping you.

The Barrens (Bar)
Hunting Level: 401 - 500
Monster Level: 400 - 600
Dungeon(s): Snake Pit and Tulors.
Monsters: Air Elemental, Earth Elemental, Fire Elemental, Water Elemental, Daemon Kings, Dark Faeries, Cobras, Kilrogs, and Beserkers.

Commentary: The first of the lands with Beserkers. 2000+ Health points should keep them from jumping you.

Bloodwood (BW)
Hunting Level: 51 - 75
Monster Level: 51 - 100
Dungeon(s): Forgotten Dungeon, The Labyrinth and Troll's Hideaway
Monsters: Shades, Banshees, Dark Faeries, Wasp Queens, Liches, Crypt Keepers, Medusas, Priestess, Bounty Hunters, Warriors, Thieves, Cobras, Imp Warriors, Imp Kings, Ogre Chiefs, Troll Kings, Daemons, Hell Hounds, and Howling Terrors.

Commentary: You've conquered the areas around The Leinsters. Tired of Emerald Forest. This may be the spot for you.

Devon Forest (Dev)
Hunting Level: 51 - 75
Monster Level: 51 - 100
Dungeon(s): Thieves Hole, Test of Souls, Enid's Safe Haven
Monsters: Wasp Queens, Dark Faeries, Thieves, Swamp Ratlings, Cobras, Howling Terrors, Imp Warriors, Seraph Warriors, Seraph Thaumaturgists, Wizards of Light, Bounty Hunters, Hell Hounds, Warriors, Troll Kings, Ogre Chiefs, Priestess, Imp Kings, and Seraph Queens.

Commentary: Game tends toward being abundant. With both Drune (in the northeast) and Silverbrook (in the southeast) adjacent, Devon Forest provides excellent opportunity for advancement with reasonable ease of repair and supply.

The Downs (Dwn)
Hunting Level: 301 - 400
Monster Level: 2300 - 500
Dungeon(s): None
Monsters: Dark Faeries, Guardians, Kilrogs, King Cobras, and Hell Snakes.

Commentary: In the south The Downs wraps 2 sides of Monmouth and in the northeast touches Silverbrook. Supply and repair is therefore about as easy to access as is gets. Kilrogs are prime hunting prey here, for some.

Emerald Forest (EmF)
Hunting Level: 26 - 50
Monster Level: 26 - 80
Dungeon(s): Fenris Caves, Imp City, Ogre Caverns, Troll's Haven
Monsters: Warriors, Thieves, Wizards of Light, Faery Queens, Wood Nymphs, Seraphs, Seraph Warriors, Seraph Thaumaturgists, Wasp Queens, Ogres, Ugly Ogres, Troll Kings, Troll Armsmen, Troll Socerers, Troll Warriors, Troll Elementalists, Blood Fenri, Gray Fenri, and Hell Hounds.

Commentary: South Havenwood a bit easy? Low level players that have grown weary of trying to keep the rat population from overtaking our fair land may enjoy a trip to the dark side by teaching all those happy, giggling faeries a thing or two about good manners. There are even some bats fluttering around if you get nostalgic for the taste of Ratling Run. The number of prey tends toward moderate and repair and resupply is not within easy walking distance from most of Emerald Forest, but if you have a desire to move your alignment toward the evil side this is a good place to flex your malicious nature.

Forest of Death (FoD)
Hunting Level: 201 - 250
Monster Level: 200 - 300
Dungeon(s): Daemon Home and Holy Caves
Monsters: Dark Faeries, Guardians, Devils, Spitting Cobras, Wardens, and Lava Serpents.

Commentary: The Forest of Death is one of two areas where the monster spawn rate has been set higher than the rest of the Realm. Yet, inexplicably, there are times in FoD when the only living creature you can see is in the reflection from a still pool alongside the stream. Prey runs hot and cold but when it is hot this is an excellent place to make some money. Warning: This area is a hard-core PvP area and you may drop multiple items. The victor of a PvP battle still does not get any experience.

The Killing Fields (KF)
Hunting Level: 201 - 250
Monster Level: 200 - 300
Dungeon(s): None
Monsters: Dark Faeries, Guardians, Devils, Spitting Cobras, and Lava Serpents.

Commentary: The Killing Fields is one of the smallest areas in the Realm and is situated close to Kurz where one can readily sell-off and get repaired. Be advised however that some of the shops in Kurz are known for taking advantage of players when it comes to price, selling items for higher than usual cost and buying for less.
31/01/04 - Mostly taken over by the Invasion. Check the Killing fields area map.

Leinster/Kurz Road (L-KRd)
Hunting Level: 26 - 50
Monster Level: 26 - 80
Dungeon(s): Targoth's Tomb
Monsters: Imp Guards, Imp Warriors, Imp Thaumaturgists, Imp Slavemasters, Imp Necromancers, Imp Kings, Cyclops', Lichs, Warriors, Clerics, Bounty Hunters, Thieves, Ogres, Ugly Ogres, Ogre Magi, Ogre Chiefs, Troll Armsmen, Troll Warriors, Troll Elementalists, Troll Kings, Wood Nymphs, Shades, Ghosts, and Wasp Queens

Commentary: Imps, Ogres and Trolls, oh my!. Along with assorted others. Tired of Ratling Run? This is the next step and a great selection of critters to choose from.

North of Leinster (NLein)
Hunting Level: 26 - 50
Monster Level: 26 - 80
Dungeon(s): Storage Chambers
Monsters: Desert Ratlings, Flying Rats, Skeletons, Pixies, Ghouls, Wolves, and Fairies.

Commentary: Perhaps the next area the young hunter needs to explore after conquering Ratling Run.

Ratling Run (RR)
Hunting Level: 1 - 3
Monster Level: 1 - 5
Dungeon(s): The Zoo
Monsters: Ratlings, Bats, Zombies, Wood Ratlings, Desert Ratlings, Flying Rats, and Pixies.

Commentary: The Land of the Newbie. Although there are several areas for the beginning player, Ratling Run is where most people get their start. It is well-suited for that purpose. This is a No PvP (Player vs. Player, other players cannot attack you), No PP (Pick Pocketing, other players cannot steal from you) area so you are safe from other players here. There are abundant rats to kill and enough pixies to keep you healed such that advancement to that first baldric is relatively rapid. With both East Leinster and Kurz nearby, doing business when needed is nearly painless.

South Havenwood (SHav)
Hunting Level: 11 - 25
Monster Level: 11 - 40
Dungeon(s): Faery Caverns, Naktos' Morgue, Tor's Crypt
Monsters: Alpha Wolves, Imp Slaves, Ogre Children, Entombed Ones, Swamp Ratlings, Faeries, Damned Ones, Thieves, Bounty Hunters, Warriors, Wasp Warriors, Vampire Bats, Flame Ratlings, Trolls, Plague Ratlings, Storm Bats, Daemon Ratlings, Imp Citizens, Wraiths, Young Fenri, Dark Faeries, Ogres, Wood Nymphs, Screeching Horrors, Troll Armsmen, Cyclops', Imp Guards, and Gray Fenri.

Commentary: A good area after West Havenwood. Plentiful choice with a wide variety of critters. Some nice groups as well.

Tourney Grove (TG)
Hunting Level: none
Monster Level: 300 - 500
Dungeon(s): None
Monsters: Bounty Hunters, Warriors, Kilrogs, and King Kilrogs.

Commentary: The player-vs-player (PvP) area. Here you can practice the fine art of combat against other players without fear of losing experience and with little fear of losing equipment. (If you die in TG you do not lose anything but you do have to watch out for battle damage destroying equipment.) Also any critters you fight here do not give experience, but it makes a safe area to test yourself against new monsters.

Wandering Wood (WanW)
Hunting Level: 125 - 200
Monster Level: 126 - 250
Dungeon(s): Imp Haven, The Supply Store West (Beral's)
Monsters: Bounty Hunters, Devils, Thieves, Flame Daemons, Snow Daemons, Furies, Spitting Cobras, Dark Faeries, and Wardens.

Commentary: This was the largest area in the game until the Ascetos Desert expansion. Quarry in this area is often abundant. Since Wandering Wood is such a vast area, repair and resupply is usually a fortnight away but being a distance form the hustle and bustle of the villages is not all bad.

West Havenwood (WHav)
Hunting Level: 6 - 10
Monster Level: 6 - 20
Dungeon(s): Lesser Hives
Monsters: Crypt Bats, Undead Necromancers, Lost Sailors, Cave Ratlings, Rabid Wolves, Wasp Workers, Arctic Ratlings, Entombed Ones, Warriors, Faeries, Alpha Wolves, Ogre Children, Bounty Hunters, Wasp Warriors, Flame Ratlings, Vampire Bats, Thieves, Imp Slaves, and Plague Ratlings.

Commentary: After the experience lessens for you, hunting North of Leinster, this the next step up. This is a No PvP, No PP area.

Wexfordshire Valley (WexV)
Hunting Level: 125 - 200
Monster Level: 126 - 250
Dungeon(s): none
Monsters: Dark Faeries, Thieves, Spitting Cobras, Furies, Bounty Hunters, and Wardens.

Commentary: If you like Furies, this is one of the spots to take out your frustrations.

The Wild Beyond (WildB)
Hunting Level: 75 - 125
Monster Level: 76 - 150
Dungeon(s): Church of Damnation, Dark Gauntlet, The Supply Store East
Monsters: Daemons, Flame Daemons, Snow Daemons, Dark Faeries, Bounty Hunters, Medusas, Thieves, Crypt Keepers, Cobras, and Furies.

Commentary: The prey is often prolific in The Wild Beyond. A large area, resupply and repair is not nearby, the closest village being Wen in the northeast.

Winter Wold (WinW)
Hunting Level: 251 - 300
Monster Level: 250 - 400
Dungeon(s): The Barracks, Fuloran's Abode
Monsters: Paladins, Dark Faeries, Kilrogs, King Cobras, and Wardens.

Commentary: Plenty of Kilrogs and Paladins for your hunting pleasure.

Zender’s Woods (Zen)
Hunting Level: 75 - 125
Monster Level: 76 - 150
Dungeon(s): Festering Hate Pool, Undead Stronghold
Monsters: Dark Faeries, Thieves, Bounty Hunters (Female), Daemon, Furies, Flame Daemon, Bounty Hunters (Male), Snow Daemon, and Seekers.

Commentary: Zender’s Woods surrounds 3 sides of the village of Wen making repair and resupply an easy walk away. OCcasionally bustling with prey, the hunting here can be good.

Notes:

The abbreviations in parentheses after the area’s name are those I have used in the Bestiary. There may be other, perhaps even more common, abbreviations in use by various players.

Hunting Level numbers: Be cautious in using these suggested levels. Naturally, players whose level is toward the lower end of the suggested range ought avoid the higher level monsters. Remember, many factors other than levels affect combat so be certain to take into account your own strengths and weakness.

Commentary: All comments regarding the ease of returning to a village for supplies and repairs are relevant only to those that must walk. If you have Teleport, or even Home, how far away from town you are is, of course, of little consequence. So far as the rest of the commentary goes, take it for what it is worth. After all, what the heck do I know?
