Quest Basics
by CaesarsPalace

Recently, August of 1998, the Realm Team (Conan) re-instated quests, and made it so that if a quest was available for a skill, then that quest would be mandatory to get the skill book for that skill. For Warriors, skills familiar through expert are still located in Hard Knocks Academy's, and can be bought easily. However, master and grandmaster skills have to be acquired through a quest. For Wizards, all the skills, familiar through grandmaster have to be acquired through a quest. For an adventurer, they can choose between all the different skills available, as can any class. For Thieves, the thieving skill quests are currently set up like the warrior quests.

To start a quest, one must go to the shopkeeper that is the starting point for it. The quest and the shopkeeper are related, i.e. a magic shopkeeper offers a magic quest, an armor shopkeeper offers a weapon or warrior quest. Basically, what a quest on The Realm consists of is running around fetching things and carrying out errands for shopkeepers. Not very exciting stuff. Check the Quests link on this site's menu for guides to performing the quests. Who knows, if enough people pester him, maybe he'll put what quests go where on his maps ;P but don't look forward to it.

[Editor's Note: LOL, thanks for the plug but don't count on it. Methinks we can all read the shop names without needing a finger to point them out. For the record, quest walk-thrus are available by clicking on the appropriate skill on the main quests page.]

Whenever someone does a quest, that person should make sure to always talk to the shopkeeper first. There are countless tales of people who gave the wrong item to the wrong shopkeeper, or who got the item without first talking to the shopkeeper. If someone makes a mistake on a quest, all is not lost. They must wait 7-10 days (don't ask me why 7-10) for the quest to reset and they can try it again. When in doubt, it's always good to check the "Quest List". This command is located under the slider bar icon, then "System", then "Quest List". If a quest is not listed up there, that means that it can still be done.

On one final note, the quests must be done sequentially, and in a specific order. For example, say Player A has no magic skills and wants to learn the Elementism skill. Player A has to go to the Monmouth magic shop, and complete the quest to get the skill book. Then, Player A has to have enough build points to learn the skill. After learning the skill, Player A can now go back to the Monmouth magic store, and start the quest for the next higher skill level of Elementism. If someone is only Familiar (Level 1) in a skill, that person can do the quest for the Proficient Level Skill, and no higher. That person cannot keep doing the skill quests higher and higher until they eventually learn the proper skill levels. Hope this wasn't too confusing, and Happy Questing!
