Where to go to get the Goods

First Steps
by CaesarsPalace

Well, now that you've created your character, chosen your profession, and started playing, the next thing to figure out is, what to do? Well, first of all, it's a good idea to open up your front door, that's the one, of two, on the right side of the screen, enter it, then, when outside, close it. As you gain items, money, and mana, you might find yourself taking that extra security precaution of typing /evict before opening and closing your doors. Trust me, when you've got something precious, and you don't want to lose it, taking the extra time to type /evict is definitely well worth it.

Wow, here you are, on your very own lawn. This is the outside of your house. Pretty much anyone can come on it, but /evict works here too. A small side note, /evict is a command that gets everyone off of your house, that was on one of the three screens that consist of your house. Every player starts out with a 3 room house; bedroom, living room, and lawn. As yet, you can't buy new rooms to your house, but who knows what the future holds? Ok, so here you are on your lawn. As you move your foot to all sides of the screen, you'll noticed there are only two places for you to go, down, and back through the door, unless you've closed it. A good idea right now, is to go down, unless you'll never get anywhere in this Realm. Another good idea is, once you're down, to check the top of the screen and find out what village you're in. Even if you're a wizard or an adventurer, knowing what village you're in comes in very handy.

So, now you're exploring a little bit. When you want to advance in this Realm, you'll have to start hunting, and maybe smithing/alchemy a little bit later in life. You start out with 0 experience, and a level of 1. With that 1 level comes 3 build points. Build points are the basis of learning skills on the Realm. For every skill, you need to have a certain amount of build points to learn that skill. Also, you have to learn a skill in sequential order, i.e. learn familiar level first, proficient second, expert third, master fourth, and finally, grand master fifth. You can't skip around learning levels. Well, back to experience and levels. Every 10,000 experience you earn, you gain 1 level, and 1 build point. You can earn experience in a few different ways: Hunting, smithing/alchemy, and disarming traps. Hunting is the main way of gaining experience (or, exp or xp, as a lot of people call it). However, as you gain levels, the amount of exp you gain will decline. That is when most people switch over to smithing/alchemy. Smithing or alchemy is the process of making things. Alchemists make potions, weapon smiths make weapons, and armor smiths make armor. Unlike hunting experience, smithing/alchemy exp doesn't decrease with each level you get. And last, and certainly least, there is detecting and disarming traps. This isn't a real way of gaining exp, but once in a while, it is possible to gain a little bit of exp. By now, you might have noticed something saying approximately, "You must eat and drink something or else you will die!" That's what the bread/vegetables (depending on profession) and water are there for. If you haven't done so already, drink one bottle of water, and eat one piece of food.

Now that you know a little bit more about the Realm, it's probably off to hunt, buy some new clothes, or spend some of those build points. As such, the two parts of Leinster, East and West, are probably the best places to start. To the east of East Leinster is Ratling Run, where most people start hunting. The monsters there are mostly levels 1 through 5, although it is good to always check a monsters level before attacking it. Once you've outgrown Ratling Run, South Havenwood is to the south of West Leinster. Both sides of Leinster have loads of clothing and armor stores. In East Leinster, though, there's a special store that sells special armor and weapons. It's called The Forge, and to get to it, you have to go down from the East Leinster Teleporter (or TP) until you reach the music cart, and then left one screen. Well, to get skill books, you have to quest, except if you are a warrior, then the Hard Knocks Academy is where you can get familiar through expert skills. Unfortunately, if you're a wizard, you can't buy your skill books in stores. For familiar through grand master magic skills, and master through grand master warrior skills, you have to partake in quests which involve running around doing errands, but, more on that in another article. Enjoy, and happy hunting!
